Key topics covered are: combustion reactions, fuels, heat capacity, redox chemistry and electrochemical cells, nomenclature and reactions of various organic compounds, reaction pathways and synthesis, analytical techniques including infrared, NMR and mass spectroscopy, chromatography, biological molecules and food chemistry. To excel in Year 12, students must exhibit competency in exam technique by providing relevant information and correctly structuring responses and displaying working.
Our Year 11 Chemistry program addresses all relevant syllabus outcomes in VIC. Students learn about atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical bonding, balanced chemical equations and moles technique, organic compounds including fuels and polymers, intermolecular forces and shapes of molecules, solubility and pH, reactions of acids, redox reactions, concentration, chromatography and volumetric analysis.
