The Year 7 Integers program is aligned with the Number and Algebra strand of the Australian curriculum. Students studying Integers apply the laws of arithmetic, such as the associative, commutative and distributive laws for multiplication and addition. They learn about and apply mental computation strategies and explore how and why the order of operations is important.
This learning program is made up of the following 2 topics, broken down into 15 concepts.
Apply the associative laws to aid mental computation
Apply the commutative laws to aid mental computation
Apply the distributive laws to aid mental computation
Show the connection between division and multiplication, including where there is a remainder
Divide two- and three-digit numbers by a two-digit number
Represent real-life using directed numbers
Recognise the direction and magnitute of integers
Use factors of a number to aid mental computation involving multiplication and division
Recognise and place integers on a number line
Compare and order integers
Subtract integers using mental and written strategies
Dividing positive and negative integers
Multiplying positive and negative integers
Apply the order of operations to calculate integers
Add integers using mental and written strategies
