What is the LANTITE

Introduced by the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) is utilised in order to assess the personal literacy and numeracy skills of every preservice teacher in Australia.

The standardised test ensures that both primary and secondary teachers can meet the demands of this profession. All of which ensures that school students across the country have access to high quality, well trained and informed teachers.

The ACER LANTITE is designed to reflect the contexts in which teachers are likely to exercise personal literacy and numeracy skills. This way, teachers can confidently provide the foundation and the building blocks students require to reach their full academic potential.

What is the LANTITE required for?

The LANTITE, while only a recent addition, is required to be completed by every student enrolled in a teacher education course, whether that course is undergraduate or postgraduate.

This way, LANTITE results can showcase that student teachers have the literacy and numeracy skills necessary in order to be considered qualified. With so much importance placed on the LANTITE test, it’s important for students to be well versed on this topic.

How much does the LANTITE cost?

For a single test, be it numeracy or literacy, the LANTITE costs $98. For both components of the test, literacy and numeracy, the cost is $196. Note that this cost is payable each time a student sits the test.

How do you register for the test?

The ACER registration page acts as an information hub for the LANTITE test. By registering for a candidate account through ACER, teaching students have access to registration processes and procedures.

When is the LANTITE and when is the best time to sit it?

There are four test windows held each year. Each education institution may suggest that students take the test at a certain period, or the institution may require a student to pass the test before the final practicum.

Teaching students past and present recommend taking the LANTITE as early as possible. This means that if something were to go wrong and you were to fail, there is time to take the test again without it delaying your registration and graduation as a practising teacher.

When it comes to sitting the LANTITE, there are numerous testing centres around the country. This way, student teachers can choose a location that is practical. For those unable to attend a testing centre in person, remote proctoring of the LANTITE may be available.

When do I find out my results?

Typically, results are published within two months of taking the LANTITE. Candidates will be required to log onto their ACER candidate profile in order to access their LANTITE results. What happens if I don’t pass the LANTITE?

Under current Commonwealth policy, an individual can sit each portion of the LANTITE up to three times. However, there are some instances where provisions can be made and an individual can sit the test up to five times.

This highlights the importance of registering for the LANTITE test in your first or second year. This way, there are more testing windows to partake in. Importantly, there is more time to sit the test again and pass without it affecting your final prac and graduation.

Where can I find LANTITE Practice Tests?

We have put together a list of the best free LANTITE practice tests and past papers here.

ACER provides official practice tests online. Easily accessible and official, these practice tests can prove to be a great asset in the entire test taking process. These practice tests will mimic the official LANTITE test which encompasses two question types, selected response and short answer.

The literacy portion of the test has one section made up of 65 questions. Student teachers are allotted 120 minutes for this section. The numeracy portion of the test consists of two sections. Section one includes 52 questions and takes 90 minutes. Meanwhile, section two includes 13 questions and the allotted test time is 30 minutes.
