We live our purpose every day
At Cluey, we work hard to empower kids through learning. It’s a guiding force behind everything we do.
We have established a not-for-profit foundation, The Cluey Learning Foundation, to facilitate a growing portfolio of social impact initiatives. We partner with like-minded Australian educational bodies, charities and community organisations to put students from all walks of life at the centre of their unique learning journey – because every child in Australia deserves to thrive in their education.
COVID-19 brought a disruption to education like we’ve never seen before. In an effort to increase student learning, we were proud to run a pilot program in Term 4, 2020, with the NSW Department of Education to address these learning gaps and support disadvantaged students.
As part of the program, we provided selected students across six schools with tutoring sessions in English and Maths. The students received either personalised 1-to-1 or small group tutoring sessions, grouped to maximise engagement and benefit.
We worked closely with the schools and individual teachers to make sure every session built on what each student was doing in class, provided comprehensive progress reports and feedback to maximise their learning.
The participating schools reporting very high levels of student engagement, academic success and confidence building. 88% of post-session student feedback rated the Cluey sessions positively, choosing “Learned a Lot”, “Fun” or “Encouraging” to describe their experiences.
The Harding Miller Education Foundation (HMEF) provides life-changing scholarships to high potential girls across Australia who are facing disadvantage. We’re proud to have been a part of their initiatives since 2018 providing funds for two full scholarships each year as well as discounted tutoring for all HMEF students.
Every HMEF scholarship includes up to $2,500 worth of personalised tutoring for core subjects. Many of us here at Cluey – including Chief Learning Officer, Dr Selina Samuels – offer further support through coaching and mentoring roles.
Aspire is UNSW’s Access & Equity student outreach program that works with school students from low socio-economic status backgrounds in schools across Sydney and regional New South Wales. It was founded on the belief that all students, no matter their background, can succeed at university and we wholeheartedly agree!
Initiatives like UNSW’s Gateway Program and UNSW’s pre-tertiary outreach program encourage and enable their students to consider, apply for and successfully participate in tertiary education. We’re thrilled to be a partner for the second year running.
We provide 1000+ hours of free online tutoring to 125 Year 12 students from underrepresented backgrounds, to support them in their final exams. Dr Selina Samuels has also conducted a live webinar to Aspire parents on ‘Navigating the HSC’.
Cluey has collaborated with the UNSW Data Science Hub to develop a predictive model for tutor quality using the learning and tutor performance analytics that we capture in each tutoring session. This model gives us unprecedented insight into the quality of the tutoring in sessions and provides a key quality assurance tool. Our collaboration with uDash helps us to ensure the quality of every learning experience for our students and informs the training and professional development of our tutors.
