Overview

The Year 5 NAPLAN Full Program contains preparation material and practice questions to support students' exam readiness. The Education Team at Cluey has analysed questions from previous papers and created content that addresses the learning areas and concepts that are assessed in the NAPLAN Maths paper. Sessions in this program target NAPLAN concepts in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability.

Topics & Concepts We Cover

This 14 session learning program is made up of the following topics, practice tests and feedback sessions

  • Add & Subtract 8 concepts

    1. Uses the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to identify the number sentence

    2. indentifies an addition expression that matches a given value.

    3. Applies logical reasoning to solve addition and subtraction word problems (intuition)

    4. Solves a subtraction problem using basic facts and place value for 2 and 3 digit numbers

    5. Solves a multi-step problem involving addition and subtraction of 2 or 3 digit numbers

    6. Uses place value to regrop numbers to solve addition problems

    7. Writes numerical representations of four and five digit numbers from words, and vice versa

    8. Identifies the correct number sentence to model a "how many more" problem

  • Multipy and Divide 5 concepts

    1. Solves a multi-step multiplcation problem (2 by 3 digits, focus on problem)

    2. Solves a division problem involving the interpretation of the remainder

    3. Identifies a word problem for a given multiplication number sentence

    4. Solves problems using the division facts of five

    5. Multiplies a decimal by a whole number to solve a problem

  • Fractions and Decimals 8 concepts

    1. Identifies the decimal form of the fractions with simple denominators of 10 and 5

    2. Identifies collections of coin with the same value e.g. I have a number of coins. They add to how much, what combinations are there?

    3. Identifies equivalent fractions used in context.

    4. Identifies a number between two decimals (e.g. a number less than 0.3 and greater than 0.16)

    5. Identifies decimal fractions to tenths, hundreths, thousandths and tens of thousandths

    6. Counts by halves including mixed numerals

    7. Adds decimals in context

    8. Determines half of the number of items in a display

  • Patterning 2 concepts

    1. Uses a pattern to identify a missing number in a table

    2. Uses an addition pattern to determine the sum of the next two terms in a sequence

  • Partial Practice Test

    1. The course includes an online test for students to practise answering NAPLAN-style questions under simulated exam conditions.

  • Test Review & Feedback Session

    1. The session following the practice test is dedicated to reviewing the student's results. It's an opportunity to discuss areas of strength and weakness in depth and to develop personalised NAPLAN test strategies.

  • Length & distance 6 concepts

    1. Converts weeks to days (e.g. How many days between Monday the ?? to Wednesday the ??)

    2. Compare lengths expressed in different units and identifies the longest and/or the shortest

    3. Solves problems by comparing objects by length using metres and parts of metres

    4. Converts from kilometres to metres to compare two or three distances in context.

    5. Compares the dimensions of a rug to the dimension of a room

    6. Calculates the duration of time in a multi-step problem

  • Capacity & Volume 3 concepts

    1. Choose an appropriate unit of measurement for capacity and mass

    2. Compares the capacity of objects using informal units

    3. Compares volumes of solid objects (using cubes and capacity models)

  • Geometry 3 concepts

    1. Identifies a composite shapoe with a line of symmetry

    2. Compares the features of different three-dimensional models

    3. Uses directional language to describe a route

  • Probability 3 concepts

    1. Indentifies which event is most likely to occur

    2. Recognise that probability ranges from 0 and 1

    3. Identifies the effect of a one-step flip

  • Statistics 4 concepts

    1. Identifies a question that would result in the given column graph (choose the Q multiple choice)

    2. Identifies and error in a column graph (incorrect scale, mis-represented graph, provides biased info)

    3. Interprets data on a two-way table

    4. Selects a picture graph to represent given data where one picture represents many data values

  • Final Practice Test

FAQ

NAPLAN, also known as the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, is a series of assessment tests held each year in May for Australian students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9. We offer a selection of programs that you can enrol in that will cover your test preparation needs for Literacy and Numeracy.

Each program contains an online practice test that contains NAPLAN-style questions that are intended to be completed in your own time, before your next scheduled session. During your next session, your tutor will review the practice test with you, providing targeted feedback and recommending areas of focus.

Absolutely. You’re more than welcome to join the session and hear the feedback and recommendations provided by your child’s tutor.

We work with your schedule to find the right time for your online session with your tutor. These sessions are 60 mins in length and typically occur once a week, but the frequency can be adjusted so you can have multiple sessions per week if desired.

After each session, your tutor will assign practice questions for you to attempt before the next scheduled session. In the weeks where a practice test is scheduled, instead of completing practice questions in the platform, a practice test will be sent to you to complete.
