English and Literature Extension Year 12
Explore a world of sophisticated and complex texts and adopt new approaches to the practice of in-depth reading and writing. Challenge yourself to develop, present and defend original creative or critical work that reflects your growing confidence as a student of Senior English. Cluey will be there to support you with everything from developing independent research strategies to mastering the secrets of extended writing.
In Year 2, students are developing their reading skills and using a range of strategies to recognise and decode words. They are learning to understand the range of purposes and audiences for spoken and written language and also learning to create their own texts for specific purposes and audiences. They are also learning to reflect on and assess their own writing and that of others.
Students learn about complex language features, varied sentence structures and expand their vocabulary. Their reading fluency increases, with greater ability to recognise high-frequency sight words and decode unfamiliar words phonically. Their own texts demonstrate progressive control over language for meaning and effect.
Students learn about text structures and encounter new and more complex language features. Students read and analyse texts containing complex sequences, non-stereotypical characters and events that may shift in time. They create a range of texts in which they can apply their understanding of textual construction and theme to consolidate increasing control of language.
Achieve your best as you study in detail the texts, concepts and skills that matter most to success in Senior English. You will read and respond to literary and other texts, analyse diverse representations of the world, and strengthen your own skills in the expression of your creative ideas and insights. From working with everyday texts in their many forms to exploring in depth specific works of poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction, film and new media, you'll grow as a learner with Cluey there to support you.
