Overview

Linear Relationships is a key component of Year 10 Mathematics Advanced and is aligned with the Australian curriculum. In this program, students learn to graph solutions and equations on a number plane, use algebraic and graphical techniques and explore the connection between graphical and algebraic representations.

    1. Sketch a linear graph using the coordinates of two points i.e. x and y-intercepts if possible

    2. Match a linear graph with its equation

    3. Form of a horizontal line including the equation of the x-axis

    4. Form of a vertical line including the equation of the y-axis

    5. Determine whether a point lies on a line by substitution

    6. Use the gradient and y-intercept to graph a linear equation

  • Equation of a line 4 concepts

    1. Convert between general form and gradient-intercept form of a linear equation

    2. Find the equation of a line given the gradient and the y-intercept

    3. Find the equation of a line given two points

    4. Finding the equation of a line given a point and the gradient

  • Parallel and Perpendicular Lines 2 concepts

    1. Apply the property that parallel lines have equal gradients

    2. Apply the property that perpendicular lines have gradients that are negative reciprocals of each other

  • Midpoint, Gradient and Distance using Formulae 4 concepts

    1. Using the Distance formula

    2. Use the angle of inclination to find the gradient of a linear function

    3. Find the midpoint of an interval using the Midpoint formula

    4. Find the gradient of a line between two points using formulae

  • Read Linear Graphs 2 concepts

    1. Determine the gradient and y-intercept using the gradient-intercept form of a linear relationship

    2. Reading the x and y intercept from a graph
