The Year 7 Number program covers the relevant content of the Number and Algebra components of the Australian curriculum. Students learn to recognise number patterns when applying algebra and indices, recognise equivalences between decimals and percentages, and apply the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with positive and negative integers.
This learning program is made up of the following 4 topics, broken down into 11 concepts.
Determine and apply tests of divisibility
Convert between index form and expanded form, numerical base only
Evaluate numbers expressed as powers of integers
Evaluate expressions with powers
Identify components of an indice using appropriate terminology
Determine if a number is prime or composite
Finding the prime factors of a number
Express a composite number as a product of its prime factors
Investigate and use the relationship between squares and square roots and between cubes and cube roots
Estimate then use a calculator to find square roots and cube roots of any non-square whole number
Evaluating expressions involving squares, square roots, cubes and cube roots without a calculator
